With recent events sweeping the nation. I have felt compelled to write this. The division and polarization are ever-increasing and destroying the very integrity we have. The United States is everything but united right now. The Coronavirus pandemic has brought this to light. The political system is in shambles and no one has a clue on how to fix it. It has caused a divide between everyday people, strangers, and neighbors. We as a nation have been through trials and tribulations in ways we couldn’t even imagine a few years ago. The rioting in the Capitol building was the last straw for me. It has to stop, and it’s up to us to do it.

So how do we fix it? We ask a simple question.

Why can’t we just love each other?

Is it really that hard? Who cares if that person doesn’t follow the same political party, religion, or whatever as you. It’s not your job to “fix them”. It’s your job as a human, to be a good person. We have lost that as a nation. We are too concerned with ourselves to understand how we have been treating others.

Politics Are Separate From People.

Part of the issue with today is people tend to tie political parties with personalities. This is a generalization that has to stop. It doesn’t matter which side of the aisle you sit on, you still have to be a good person. If you are a republican you aren’t inherently a nazi or racist. If you are a Democrat you aren’t inherently a “lib-tard”. The fact that people tend to lump someone they know nothing about simply because of their political affiliation is nonsensical and ridiculous. A lot of the fighting comes from a vocal minority in the two groups. Most people tend to be more towards the middle on each side. You’ll find a lot of the ideas can be very similar.

The simple solution to this is to have a damn conversation. Find out what they are about. It’s not rocket science. If you do this you’ll find that Republicans and Democrats are all the same. They both want what’s best for them and the people they care about. They are both people first.

Care About Your Damn Neighbor

Another issue is we have lost a huge sense of community. Neighbors are just people we live next to. They are no longer people we care about. When was the last time you talked to your neighbor? For me, it’s been months. It’s unfortunate. Right now, in this very moment, communities across the nation are dying. Unfortunately, this is due to a litany of factors. The coronavirus is a huge reason, but not the only reason. We struggle as a society to come together and help our brothers and sisters. This is truly a disgrace. We must start caring about each other to make sure this division does not continue. It is destroying us.

Equality Is a Key

There is a step we must take to fix this nation. We must care about equality and each other. Equality is the most important cause for all of us to join. We should all be pushing for equality. At the end of the day your skin color, sexual orientation, or gender should never be a judgment against you. Everyone is important and loved. We need to show each other that now, more than ever.

I am sickened by the events that have transpired over the last few weeks. It’s the first time in my life that I have felt embarrassed to be an American. We need to come together and fix the issues within the United States. We shouldn’t be this divided. We shouldn’t be this broken. We shouldn’t be in this boat. We have a duty to help each other heal and move forward.

So Let’s move forward. Let’s put each other first. Let’s love each other.
